1. How long has your practice existed and how long have you been using ELVeS® Radial® laser therapy for the treatment of varicose veins?

Our practice has existed for over 30 years and is the oldest established vascular surgery practice in Oberhausen. It was founded by our predecessor and was taken over by us over 10 years ago. The Post-Practices are a group practices from various specialist areas. This offers our patients a wide range of different skills and holistic care.

2 Which clinical conditions do patients come to your practice with? Can you estimate what amount are varicose veins?

We mainly treat venous diseases such as varicose veins, ulcers, thromboses, postthrombotic syndromes, cosmetically disturbing spider veins and reticular varicose veins and leg swellings. In addition to this focus, we also treat arterial diseases. These include AVK, aneurysms, narrowing of the carotid artery, diseases of the lymphatic vascular system and malignant diseases, etc. for intraport implantation.

3 Which treatment options for varicose veins can you offer your patients?

We have various options for the treatment of varicose veins. Which therapy is applied to a patient depends on various individual factors and is discussed in detail in a preliminary consultation. We have mainly specialized in minimally invasive therapy methods, as these are associated with significantly less pain and faster recovery for the patient. We offer sclerotherapy including foam and microsclerotherapy, as well as MOCA (mechanical chemical ablation of the veins), laser therapy and radio wave therapy and vein adhesion. Thus we offer the entire range of currently available minimally invasive varicose vein therapies.

4. How often does a patient visit your practice when he/she receives laser treatment?

In order to ensure a good treatment and an optimal healing process, the patient should visit us 7 times in total. Twice before the operation for a consultation and diagnostic discussion, then of course on the date of the operation itself, one day later for direct follow-up and for further follow-up one week, six weeks and once within the first 6 to 12 months after the operation.

5. Can there be recurrences after the treatment? Can this be positively influenced?

In principle, recurrences are possible but rather rare, since additional sclerotherapy is usually performed during follow-up if necessary.
In order to prevent recurrences, compression should be applied for about 14 days after laser therapy. This is no longer necessary in everyday life and should only be carried out in special stress situations, such as during long flights.
